Ingrid Larragoity-Martin serves as the Associate Director of Bands at New Mexico State University. She is the Director of the PRIDE of New Mexico Marching Band, the Roadrunner Basketball Pep Band, and the New Mexico State University Symphonic Band, as well as provides leadership and experience through music education courses. Prior to her appointment at New Mexico State University she was the Interim Assistant Director of Bands at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas where she served as the Director of Symphonic Band, Pep Band and was the assistant for the Show Band of Arkansas Marching Band.
Born in Weehawken, New Jersey, Larragoity-Martin’s passion for the arts revealed itself at an early age. As a young child, she studied piano continuing on in middle and high school as a clarinet player and member of scholastic ensembles as well as honor bands and all-state bands. Both her marching and symphonic band experiences, in tandem with being a member of the Color Guard, affirmed that music would be an ever-present part of her life. In 1998 Ingrid graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from the University of South Florida, and then continued her musical studies to attain a double Master in Music Education and Conducting, also from University of South Florida, under Dr. William Weidrich.
Mrs. Larragoity-Martin spent 9 years as a successful high school band and orchestra director in the state of Florida. She was Assistant Director at T.R. Robinson High School in Tampa for one year, then Director at Western High School in Davie for 3 years, and finally 5 years at Coral Glades High School in Coral Springs Florida. During her 5 years as the Director at Coral Glades, the band and orchestra earned superior ratings at both district and state levels in all ensembles including concert band, marching band, jazz band, chamber strings, beginning strings, advanced strings and full orchestra. Larragoity-Martin also developed and grew championship winter guard and indoor percussion programs and had the honor of authoring and arranging the new high school's alma mater.
In 2007, the Coral Glades Chamber Strings had the distinction of performing at the Florida Music Educators Association Annual Conference and in the same year, the Marching Band took the title of First Place in their class at the annual Florida Marching Band State Championship tournament. While at Coral Glades High School, Larragoity conceived, created and produced an annual production titled “KOTA” (Kaleidoscope of the Arts). This explosive musical production allowed the students the opportunity to combine their artistic talents in a live theatrical experience that moved them beyond conventional music performance and help raise over 15,000 dollars for their program. ?Mrs. Larragoity-Martin also pioneered a collaborative program with the New World Symphony in Miami, Florida. This collaboration entailed private lessons with their fellows, performances with the symphony and Cleveland Orchestra under Michael Tilson Thomas, in-classroom master classes using technology and attendance at live performances of their entire season.
After spending 5 years at Coral Glades, developing and growing a solid program and booster association, Larragoity decided that she wanted to return to music academia to pursue her doctorate in wind instrumental conducting and literature at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Under the inspiring tutelage of Professor Allan McMurray, Larragoity-Martin finished her residency in Spring 2012 and is currently ABD.
In addition to her teaching career, Larragoity-Martin is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Jinsha Summer Music Festival, conceived and launched in 2009. The annual Festival provides a 24 day musical and artistic journey through China for high school and college aged students. The experience includes studying with artist musicians and master teachers from the SiChuan Conservatory of Music along with a comprehensive program in Chinese calligraphy, Mandarin, opera, and traditional instruments to provide an immersive experience in global awareness and culture.
In 2009, Larragoity-Martin was awarded the Broward County Teacher of the Year award in addition to receiving a commendation from the Mayor for her work with Coral Glades High School and her service with the community. She holds affiliations with College Band Directors National Conference and Sigma Alpha Iota.
Larragoity-Martin is excited to join the esteemed staff of New Mexico State University artists and music educators, and looks forward to supporting the continued growth of such a well-established and highly respected music program.
