Voice

Undergraduate

All applicants for degrees in voice (BM or BME) are to audition in person or by recording (CD). Prepare two contrasting selections, one of which is from the standard vocal repertoire. A musical theater selection may be offered as the second piece, but is not required.

Graduate

Vocal Performance Applicants must either perform a live audition or submit an audition recording (CD). The audition is to include music representative of the following styles and languages:

  • Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Contemporary
  • English, Italian, French, German
  • Art song, opera, oratorio

Musical theater selections may also be included, but may not substitute for any of the above.

There will also be a Voice Area Diagnostic Exam administered within the first year of study. The exam will cover the following areas:

  • Art song and opera history
  • Vocal pedagogy and anatomy
  • International Phonetic Alphabet

If Auditioning In Person: Please bring three (3) letters of recommendation.

If Auditioning by CD: Include those letters in the same packet as the recording.
